The three-time champion began well, Supernatural brushing past fellow CW series The Flash in the opening round with relative ease. It's always going to be a tough ask to knock out a series that has never before been eliminated before the quarter-finals. Looking to do that today is Fargo, Noah Hawley's FX anthology. Like with a large number of cable dramas, this has a following that loves it but said following is not as vast as its opponent. Beating Dexter - by a single vote - was one thing; this is entirely different. In its debut year, I don't see it doing much here.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine's defeat of Leverage in round one was one of the biggest shocks so far. The TNT series has only featured twice but was runner-up last year, so to exit at such an early stage - its earliest - is remarkable, especially at the hands of a comedy, which I typically expect a little less from. Anyway, making the third round would be another stunner, because Once Upon a Time stands in its way today. Back-to-back first round exits leading into 2017 shouldn't fool you - the fanbase is strong and it is the favourite here. But, as we always say, anything can happen in these competitions.
