So far this season has been a string of hits. This episode is no exception.

The episode opens in 1968, and we finally get the formula for the movement of the two timelines. The years move at the same rate, but are two years off. So, while it is 1968 for Claire, it is 1766 for Jamie.

Claire, Brianna and Roger track Jamie to Ardsmuir Prison, but lose track of him after that. They know that when the prison closed, the prisoners were sent to The Colonies, but they hit a roadblock. They can’t find any record of the ship that took them away or where they landed.

The only positive part of all of this is that Claire and Brianna’s relationship improves. Claire decides to heed Mrs. Graham’s warning about chasing ghosts. She announces that it is time to Boston.

The bulk of the episode was spent at Hellwater; a generally peaceful place for Jamie. He’s well fed, well treated, gets paid a stipend and gets to work with horses.

The drawing of straws to see who would be stuck with Geneva was a really nice touch. In addition to giving us a glimpse of how Jamie gets along with his fellow grooms the scene also clued us in on what kind of person Geneva is.

Once again I loved the casting. I have not had a single moment of disappointment with the casting this year. Where the actress

shone for me was in the sex scene with Jamie.

The actress managed to show us the vulnerability behind the shrew capable forcing Jamie into her bed. I actually felt some compassion for Geneva and the situation she was in.

I absolutely adored the scene where Hal came upon John and Jamie playing chess. That was a pretty fun game of cat and mouse as Hal quickly sizes up the situation with regard to why Jamie is at Hellwater and the fact that John was hanging out with him. John looked like he wanted the Earth to swallow him up.

The major outcome of the episode is, of course, the fact that Jamie has a son. The little boy playing Willie was adorable and good. Jamie had an opportunity with Willie that he didn’t have with either of his daughters. He was able to help raise him for a time.

When Jamie realizes that people may begin to suspect that a groom is the young earl’s father, he realizes it is time to return to Scotland. Jamie gives Willie a wooden snake he carved that looks like the one his older brother carved for him.

In another of the standout scenes of the episode, Jamie asks John to look after Willie for him. John’s reaction to Jamie’s offer to have sex with him as payment for looking after Willie and Jamie’s later reaction when John informed him that he and Isobel were getting married were the stand out moments in the scene.

It was a little difficult to feel bad for Claire when she decided to walk away from her defeat and return to Boston because we all know Claire and Jamie will find each other again.

It can’t be that much longer now can it?
