In this latest episode of Andi Mack, we get an interesting tale that tackles not just the concept of kindness to those that you're having issues with, but also the concept of how someone's behavior can change and if it can change. The main part of the episode starts with Andi overhearing Amber talking on the phone with her family, and during this: Andi learns that Amber's parents have been fighting so much recently that Amber doesn't feel comfortable going home. So in order to help Amber out, Andi actually allows Amber to sleep over at her place. Now obviously, many of the other characters are worried about the negative consequences that could come from allowing Andi to let Amber to get close to her. Amber obviously has a record of making life for Andi difficult. Plus, many of the characters believe that a person's core behavior can never change. It all ties into a classic fable that both Buffy and Bex mention in the episode; that being: the tale of the scorpion who rides a frog's back to get across a river, but stings the frog halfway across anyway despite the fact that they'll both drown because the scorpion couldn't help what was in their nature.

However, Andi shows by example in this story that a person's past actions should not prevent you from showing them some level of kindness. And this is actually a bold thing Andi does, and makes her character actually a strong role model to young viewers watching. In this day and age, way too many people of any age really can allow their feelings that come from being wronged by a person to cause them to become overly hostile with that person, to a point where they themselves become just as rude as the person that wronged them in the first place. Andi however takes the high road and chooses to treat Amber better than Amber treated her. It's obviously not easy for her, but Andi never once in the story says anything rude to Amber. Now, it can still be tricky showing kindness to those that hurt you in the past. It is something that should always be approached delicately, since it is important to keep yourself safe from harm. Which Amber unfortunately does to Andi... when she encourages Andi to sneak into a carnival with her. And when Andi is riding a Ferris Wheel: Amber stops it after she notices Jonah is trying to call Andi, and begins to yell at Andi for stealing Jonah from her, and leaves Andi stuck in a comprising position that gets her in trouble with the police.

1em; margin-left: 1em;">Now, this unfortunate turn of events might cause one to think that Amber was just playing Andi the entire time. And unfortunately, Amber's actions might cause one to start thinking that: maybe people's behaviors can't change. But here's the important mindset to have when dealing with difficult individuals. On one hand: you can't control peoples' behaviors the way you control a puppet, because their behaviors and choices are theirs and theirs alone. However, you can influence peoples' behaviors with your own. Now in Amber's case: from what we learn about her family in this episode, it's easy to believe that her behavior is being influenced by her parents' behavior. At one point her mom and dad were happy and kind to each other; but then at another point they began doing harmful things to each other. So this may have created an unhealthy mindset in Amber's mind with the idea that: people are always destined to do hurtful things to those that were once kind to them.

However, Andi tried to be a positive influence on Amber in the episode. She showed kindness to Amber hoping that her behavior could influence Amber's. Sadly though, it may not have. Now similarly, in the side plot of the episode: Buffy is having difficulty getting along with her basketball team captain because he's being rude to her. Now at first Buffy feels that she should retaliate with being rude back, but Cyrus tries to help her realize that you can't influence people to be better that way. Now like Andi, Buffy tries to show kindness to someone she herself is having a conflict with; but just like with Andi, this conflict doesn't end well either. However: problems you have with anyone are like a brick wall. And even if you think you're perfect: it always takes two people to start building a wall of feuding. Andi and Buffy however in this episode, take action to get rid of their parts of the metaphoric walls that they themselves contributed to their feuds in the past. The individuals they were having issues with may have failed at doing their part to take those walls down, but at least Andi and Buffy can feel a little better now knowing that they at least did their part at trying to take it down and make things better.
