Before Tequila Sunrise

Alright, people, pay attention because The Bold Type is getting political, not that it wasn't before, but this week they're calling it all by name, and that is bold indeed. Why would I say that? because even if every social subject is political in a way, and they have treated issues like immigration before, which are inherently and in that case very currently political, this time they go all out, they're not as in-your-face as they could be, but it comes quite close, and that could alienate some viewers.

So, let's get to it, Adena took the leap and booked a ticket to New York, but she didn't make it through, and we all know why that is, so Kat's storyline revolves mainly around this. At one point, she makes a crazy move out of desperation, and as a result of that, we learn a bit more about her, why she is the way she is, the good and the bad, but we also learn she has a lot of growing up to do. Honestly, Aisha Dee and Nikohl Boosheri killed it in this episode, there's just so much here, about politics, about love, about being brave, and terrified, there were some beautiful moments here, and they both got a chance to shine as performers they hadn't really gotten before.

Sutton sees an opportunity to grow on the magazine and goes for it, this entails genderless clothes, which turns out to be super fun for all of them, especially since they end up staying in the office after-hours because a public figure is generating so much chaos on the street that they can't leave the building.

Jane is having a tough job deciding what to do, which I have to say surprised me because I was pretty sure there wouldn't be any doubt, but Incite's offer taps right into all the things Jane feels are lacking at Scarlet, and Jacqueline's attitude doesn't really help either, it gets quite confusing and we don't know exactly why, but I have a feeling we'll find out soon.

Pinstripe guy makes an appearance and I'm over the moon, he has a lot to do in this episode and I couldn't be happier, Ryan (yeah that's his name) just makes everything better, even drinking... I'm loving Dan Jeannotte, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but if you don't yet, read Jamie's interview, you'll see...

"Although we do get to see a bit more of Ryan this season, I can’t say that we really delve into his background. He’s involved in the plotline of the show because he’s a part of Jane’s journey, a piece of her puzzle. It’s her story, not his."

That particular phrase really caught my attention because it's a subject that generates some debate, does every show develop every character right away, or do they focus on the main characters and go from there? and what happens when the main characters are women? does that make it a sexist show? I believe Dan said it perfectly here, I'd like to know more about pretty much every character on this show, but when push comes to shove, our girls are the priority, and some monumental things are happening to all of them. So, for now, I'll leave you with that and some quotes.

"Same thing."
"I don't remember crying, weird."
"So... vodka?"
"Did everyone quit?"
