SACRILEGE ** U.S.A. 2017 Dir: Paul Catalanotto 96 mins

Possession horror movies can be really good or really bad, SACRILEGE fits somewhere in the middle of all that. The film sees college student Jessica out to buy her friend a gift but strapped for cash and unsure what to buy she ends up at a yard sale. Looking for all the good son display she eventually decides to buy a music box for $5, a bargain some may say. When she gives it to her friend things take a turn for the worse, as it feeds off her life and eventually she kills herself.
Distraught by her friends suicide, Jessica realises the box was somehow involved and with the help of a paranormal investigator they investigate the origin of the box, in the hopes to free herself from the same fate of her friend. If you are looking for the next horror movie with a possessed item at the centre then this indie film is for you. Some of the acting may make you wince but the story is a good one and when the drama ramps up, actress Jenn Foreman as Jessica shows that she has what it takes to carry the film. It is shot well but as is the case with many horror movies, it has a tendency to show you more of the ghosts too early leaving you unchallenged at the next jump scare. Next time your at a yard sale beware of that item that seems too good to be true, it could be your last purchase ever!
