'Rom-Bomb Stinker & Minus Any Quality & Charm'
A rehash of the Brothers Macmillan tale, this is one of the blandest and driest excuses of a romantic comedy, with a script is neither romantic enough and characters one can root for. She's the one is also an early romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz, who one year later was on My Best Friend's Wedding, which is a tad superior to this movie. Both actresses, especially Aniston have done and appeared in better efforts than this one and I bet you, and hoping they have wiped this off their memory or their CVs/resumes.
The trite plot follows the shallow relationships of a father, played by the late John Mahoney of Frasier and that of his sons with the women they are involved with.
The film's tagline describes this as a romantic comedy about two brothers.... and one thing that came between them, yet there is no polish given to this movie; just characters sharing smoking scenes, which Ed Burns must've blown some of the film's budget on several packets of cigarettes, and none of them is the least bit likeable or people I could side with. That and the whole film bored my brains out as it dragged on and on. I kept checking on the clock to see when it will end. This is one of the most boring, so unmemorable and easily forgettable rom-coms, ever. I swear, I felt I lost several brain cells, as I sat through a narrative that became even more monotonous, vapid and dreary as the movie went on. Diaz and Aniston are poorly miscast and whilst it might have been better had they swapped roles, this film has frankly little that is good to engage and hold one's attention.
She's The One has absolutely no charm and with not enough romantic scenes with the characters - although the characters themselves are selfless, unsympathetic and dislikeable. Watching this also made me come to realise also how it bombed and it didn't become a huge hit.
Final Verdict:
A miserly trainwreck from 1996 with a wooden & occasionally nasty script and bland direction by Ed Burns, who doesn't give his cast much range to work with his characters. & once again, it's another terrible romantic comedy that joins the likes of thousands or millions of other films of this type that are so practically awful and lame.
Contrary To This Movie, This Ain't The One.
Overall:
