Magnea meets Stella and both of their lives slide into the abyss as Stella's wild life and drug use takes a terrible toll on the girls over the next 12 years.

This rollercoaster to hell this is a warts and all look at drug addiction and the lives destroyed by it. Light years beyond what Hollywood produces or even releases, this is a film that is almost tactile with the smells, tastes and feels of the lives of the girls. While there is light at times by the time the end comes there is a gritty sadness to it all.

I was kind of unprepared for how intense this film was. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't the gut punch and in your face look at two lives going off and on and off the rails. I was kind of  broken by the end and as the end credits rolled I just sat in my seat staring at the screen a while. I suspect my reaction is due largely to not having any notion of what I was getting into, which is probably how we should all see films the first time.

While I don't have a lot to say about the film, I'm still trying to process it, I do have to say that this is a stunning film. Stumbling upon a film like this as part of the Toronto slate is why I love to cover festivals.

Highly recommended.
