A musical about the life and times of Elton John that is as accurate as a Broadway musical. Consider it a broad loving fantasia on the man and his music and you'll have a grand old time. Since Elton was the first rock star I discovered on my own when I was 9 or 10 he has always been with me. Going in I was wary of the film since I was afraid it would either wreck me because of kicking up moments of my life associated with the music or wreck my relationship to him by being a piss poor film. Instead I sat bright eyed and smiling the whole time with several sequence bringing tears at how well music mixed with image and story. It's not perfect but it is fun and

ADDAMS FAMILY
Animated attempt at starting a new franchise featuring the Charles Addams characters looks good, has moments but tries way too hard. The tale has the family moving to a normal and bland neighborhood where they come in conflict with the locals. Meanwhile Wednesday decides she wants to be normal. Showing the work of way too many hands, there are at least four people credited with the story and or screenplay and rumor is there were more giving input. The result is the film never really works because it doesn't seem to know what it really is. It's also sad because the cast, which feature Oscar Isaac, Bette Midler and Charlize Theron and Alison Janney is great.

BLACK AND BLUE
African American female officer catches a murder committed by dirty cops on her body camera and she then becomes a target for the officers seeking to cover their tracks.
This is a solid police thriller with strong social commentary thrown in the mix that starts tense and ups the ante once the murder happens. Definitely worth a look.
