When I was young, being a Scout was still popular. My knowledge of Scouts is second hand, because I personally was never a Scout. I vaguely remember my parents suggesting I join the Scouts, but I wasn't interested. My sister joined the Brownies, the younger version of the Girl Guides, which was the female version of the Scouts. I never understood why the Girl Guides were divided into two organisations, based on age, whereas the Scouts were just one organisation. It probably has historical reasons.
In the film, Scouts are presented as being geeky and dorky. That's unfair. Scouts are trained in the art of survival, so they're better equipped to survive a zombie apocalypse than anyone else. Apart from strippers, that is. According to recent films, strippers are always the first to combat zombies. The three Scouts in the film are aided by a stripper who dropped out of their school. She insists that she's only a cocktail waitress who works in a strip club, but by the time we see the club it's already been devastated by zombies, so it's her word against the rest of the world.
The three boys in the film are 16, and they've been Scouts since the sixth grade. That's long enough for Ben and Carter. When they were 12 it was fun being a Scout, but now they're 16 it's time to start thinking about girls, and girls don't like boys who run around in funny uniforms and short trousers. As for Augie, he's a Scout forever. Maybe that's just because he's overweight and doesn't think he has any chance with girls. It could also be because he's the most successful Scout of the three; he has the most merit badges.

Then the zombie apocalypse begins. Luckily, it's a local catastrophe, limited to the town where they live, Deer Field, California. (I already checked. It doesn't exist). The army took measures into its own hands while the boys were sleeping in their tents in the woods. The infection will be stopped by air strikes on the town. The boys are determined to save Carter's sister before the bombs fall, aided by the stripper who claims to be a cocktail waitress.
It's a silly film, but it's still somehow appealing. I would have preferred more strippers and less Scouts, but then it wouldn't have been the same film.
